Avoid fines for illegal dumping! Keep Materials out of the Waste Stream!

Putting unwanted furniture on the sidewalk or in the public right of way is illegal dumping and can incur fines up to $1000. Overflowing bins can also result in citations and fines. Donate your materials when you can and otherwise sort your waste properly!

Plan Ahead

Don’t wait until the last minute and then throw everything in the trash or on the curb. Electronics contain hazardous waste and should never be placed on the sidewalk or in debris bins. Protect yourself and others by following public health safety standards.

TAKE ADVANTAGE OF CITY SERVICES

Berkeley residents can drop off up to 2 mattresses/box springs/futons and 2 electronics for free at the Berkeley Transfer Station. To drop off additional electronic waste for free, see the ewaste Collective.

If you have extra waste that will not fit in your receptacle, you can purchase extra, prepaid refuse or prepaid plant debris bags at the city's Transfer Station or the Berkeley Ace Hardware, or take items directly to the Transfer Station.

Call 3-1-1 for more info about bulky pickups!

RECYCLE

Use the city’s blue bins to recycle cans & bottles. Bundle newspapers & cardboard to avoid overflowing bins.
