Move Out 2018

Welcome to Cal Move Out and Reuse, a student-led initiative that strives for sustainability — and avoiding fines for illegal dumping.

Got Re-Useable items? Drop off or Arrange for a Pick Up

Where will you be moving out Of?

Avoid fines for illegal dumping! Keep it out of the Waste Stream!

Putting unwanted furniture on the sidewalk or in the public right of way is illegal dumping, with fines starting at $500. And overflowing bins can also result in citations and fines. In fact, violators can be imprisoned and fined up to $1000 a day. This year, at the urging of residents and elected officials, City teams are preparing to cite violators more quickly than ever before!

Plan Ahead

Don’t wait until the last minute and then throw everything in the trash or on the curb. Electronics contain hazardous waste and should never be placed on the sidewalk or in debris bins.

Work with your landlord or property manager to schedule extra service, Bulky Waste Pick-Up Service, or get Prepaid Plant Debris Bags. Call 3-1-1 for more info!

Use the city’s blue bins to recycle cans & bottles. Bundle newspapers & cardboard.

Be part of a local solution! Participate in Cal Move-Out Weekends and Cooperative Reuse! Students can drop-off items at the SW Clark Kerr parking lot.

Cal move out weekends by cooperative re-use

get your re-usables picked up

  • How: Don't have access to wheels? Sign up for free pickup for mattresses, desks, chairs, couches, electronics, bikes, or bike parts, and any other reusable furniture, etc.
  • When: By appointment! PLEASE NOTE: As of June 1, We are currently not accepting anymore pickup sign ups since we are exceeding our capacity to store goods until they are taken by others in the community. We'll re-open the form if more space opens up.
